Brief Description of the Project
Introduction
Construction of Extension of Southern Expressway (ESEP) from Matara to Hambantota including Expressway link to Mattala (96km) has already been commenced. Construction of 96km long four lane Expressway split into four sections namely Matara – Beliatta (30km), Beliatta – Wetiya (26km), Wetiya – Andarawewa (15km) and Mattala – Hambantota via Andarawewa (25km). The expressway section from Matara to Beliatta (Ch.0+000 – Ch.30+000) is under the Extension of Southern Expressway Section 1.

Initial outer 4 lane expressway comprises of each 3.6 m wide lanes, 2.5m wide outer hard shoulder, 0.75m wide inner hard shoulder and 0.75m verge on either side with 2.0m wide center median. Construction of embankments, cutting and sub structures of bridges, viaducts etc. where 6 lane facilities is required in future, will be with the provision for expanding to 6 lanes.
